Colin Cunningham
A photographer, educator, and dad, based in Glasgow and working across the Central Belt of Scotland.
I was born and raised in a creative household, where art and music were always part of everyday life. That early influence led me into a career as a travelling musician, working alongside a wide range of creatives and projects over the years. Being surrounded by that level of creativity pushed me to keep learning, adapting, and exploring new ways of expressing ideas, something that still drives everything I do today.
Through music, I naturally found myself drawn into videography, working on music videos, band promos, festivals, and promotional content for local events and small businesses. From there, photography became a deeper focus. I see music, video, and photography as part of the same expanding creative space — each one informing the other and shaping how I approach visual storytelling.
These days, my main passion lies in photography, from portraits and family sessions to landscapes and community work. I love video for its movement and energy, but I’m equally drawn to the stillness of photography, the challenge of saying something meaningful in a single frame.
Becoming a father to two boys changed how I see images entirely. Photographing their lives, personalities, and fleeting stages of childhood has made me realise just how quickly moments pass. That experience fuels my approach to family photography, capturing children as they are, naturally and honestly, without forcing moments that don’t feel real. Those early years don’t last long, and holding onto them visually can be incredibly powerful.
Alongside family work, I also place real value on strong, authentic imagery for businesses and creatives. In a world where online presence matters more than ever, visuals need to feel natural, true to the brand, and sustainable to maintain. Having built my own platforms over time, I understand the pressure of running a business, creating content consistently, and trying to do everything at once. My aim is to help ease that load by creating imagery that genuinely represents who you are and what you do.
I also have a growing passion for headshots and character-driven portraits, particularly for actors and performers. Coming from a creative household, with my partner working creatively too, has sharpened my appreciation for individuality, character, and storytelling. Capturing that essence in a single image, something that helps open doors and tell a story before a word is spoken, is something I care deeply about.
